Lapsung is the latest musical incarnation of Brighton based wunderkind Matt Davies - the final, solidified form produced after a fluid search through a plethora of styles, genres and aliases.

If Lapsung is Davies’ answer to years of musical exploration, then his latest EP, ‘Her Eyes Un’, is his pièce de resistance - a deftly executed and pristine exploration of the sounds that have influenced and shaped him over the years. The EP is a journey in itself; swimming between the likes of trap, r&b, noise and folk music, it explores and exploits disparate styles without ever settling into the boundaries provided by them.

For Davies, this EP has been a peregrination mentally, and he describes it as ‘more real’ than previous works. On ‘Her Eyes Un’, the artist makes a move from dealing with fictitious, fantasy based concepts, such as on last year’s self-released ‘L, The Shard’, to dealing with issues and emotions, which, in his own words, “took me from 1 to 100 and back again, multiple times”.

From the bliss inducing, ethereal melodies of ‘In Your Head’ and ‘Like Snow’ to the chest-rattling, club destroying bassweight of ‘Device’ and ‘Dogwoman’, this EP shows just how deep Lapsung cuts.
